Glenwood beats Center in ‘Spartan Bowl’

Neighbors | Submitted.Boardman Center gathered as a team to listen to coach Terrance James as part of the 2010 "Spartan Bowl" game against rival Boardman Glenwood on Saturday.


Rivals Boardman Glenwood and Boardman Center faced off Saturday in the annual "Spartan Bowl." Glenwood won the contest 30-6.

Benji Roberts rushed for 299 yards and three touchdowns as the Boardman Glenwood football team won the annual “Spartan Bowl” 30-6 over Boardman Center on Saturday.

Glenwood’s offensive line, led by center Vince Valentini, guards Gavin Dill and A.J. Yaist, tackles Jaysen Young and David Zaitzew, tight ends Devin Curd, Rich Kalosky, and Preston Wehr, paved the way for touchdown runs of 75, 42 and 52 by Roberts. Fullback Jamison Lytle also threw key blocks in the contest.

The Glenwood defense was led by Jake Wagner’s fourth interception of the season. Devin Curd added a sack as the unit limited Center to just one touchdown. Also contributing to the defense were Josh Botak, Alex Birchfield, Marcus Smith and Adam Price.

Glenwood finished the season with a 5-2 overall record.

Boardman Center avoided the shutout, scoring on a six-yard run by Evan Croutch.

“It was a well played game on both sides,” said Center coach Terry James. “Both teams were very physical and gave everything they had. Glenwood played a great game and we look forward to playing them next year.”
