Boardman High School drama will present “Damn Yankees” April 19-20 at 7 p.m. and April 21 at 5 p.m. in the Boardman Performing Arts Center. The Sunday showing will offer a special refreshment and dessert fundraiser, sponsored by the BHS Parent Teacher Student Association, for $3 per person to benefit the 2013 senior scholarship.
“Damn Yankees” is a modern retelling of the Faust legend and is set in the 1950’s in Washington D.C. It focuses around Joe Boyd (Luke Markovitch), a fan of the Washington Senators baseball team who wants nothing more than for the Senators to beat the Yankees, the team that is dominating baseball at the time. With a visit from the devilish Mr. Applegate (Dominic Zocolo), Joe agrees to a risky deal and becomes Joe Hardy (Cory Fowler), a new young player for the Senators who aims to lead the team to victory. But as time passes, Joe realizes how much he misses his wife, Meg (Kristyn Wolf), and begins to doubt his choice. Will Joe find his way out of the deal in time to save his soul and return to his wife while still beating the Yankees?
“Damn Yankees” is a play that offers some comedic moments, catchy tunes performed by the talented BHS drama cast, the hope for Joe and Meg to reunite in their true love, and a great sense of suspense from the moment the curtain rises. Tickets are available at boardmandramaguild.com or they can be purchased at the box office the night of the play.
Refreshments and dessert after the Sunday performance will offer delicious food, donated by the PTSA, and a chance to meet the cast of this production.
