Boardman Park hosted a senior fun day at the Lariccia Family Community Center Jan. 17 with guest speaker Victor Russell, a financial consultant.
Russell helps people with budget management and getting out of debt. He spoke on the dangers of identity theft for the elderly and what they can do to protect themselves. Russell gave the group a list of three websites that offer a free credit check once a year and advised the group to check their credit reports three different times a year using those websites and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
After the lecture, the seniors enjoyed a lunch sponsored by Sunrise Assisted Living and then took part in an exercise session with Fun Day director, Monna Behnke.
“I lead the exercise sessions and I really try to get them moving. It’s good for them to stay active and I don’t push them too far,” said Behnke. “This week, we are going to take it a little easier, but next week we might do some other things.”
The exercise session was well-received among the attendants of the fun day as well.
“The exercise is my absolute favorite part of coming to the fun days,” said Mary Wood, of Austintown.
The next senior fun days will be Feb. 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a cost of $1 per person. There will be exercise, a craft, blood pressure screening, lunch, bingo, and prizes for those who are 55 and up. Call 330-965-0482 to register.
