At the Jan. 9 Teen Advisory Board meeting at the Boardman library, TAB started working on a fundraiser in memory of Brandy Rosine-Stevens, a Boardman High School alumni and former member of Boardman library Teen X-Treme programs, who passed away last May.
Rosine-Stevens became a member of Teen X-Treme when she was in seventh grade and remained active in the library through one function or another even during college.
To honor her memory, Boardman library and Teen X-Treme are hosting a collection and duct tape fundraiser. For a certain donation, you can purchase a length of duct tape to secure a local celebrity to the wall of the library. Though which celebrity will participate is yet to be determined, there was no shortage of ideas going around.
“Last year, when we had this fundraiser, former library director Carlton Sears agreed to be duct taped to the wall and we raised more than $600,” said Deborah Liptak, Development Director for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. “Whoever agrees to help us with this fundraiser will know it’s for a good cause. Brandy was so active in the library.”
The duct taping fundraiser itself will be taking place on March 13 at the Boardman library branch. TAB members will be selling duct tape door-to-door throughout the community from the month of February until the fundraiser. In addition to this, they will be at the Boardman Library on March 2 and 9 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and on March 7 from 6-8 p.m. to sell the tape. Those who do not wish to purchase tape may still donate to the fundraiser.
